The Board requires that all time from medical school to the present day be accounted for. Usually the physician will always have a gap between medical school and when they start their internship year. This has to be documented. For example, 5/18/99 - 6/30/99 time between completing medical school and starting internship. Other items to document are vacation times, not working, etc.

Anytime the Board receives a document that has different applicant's names than originally listed on the application, the Board will require an explanation.  For example, if a physician got married or divorced, we would require a copy of their marriage license or divorce papers indicating their name change. Once an International Medical Graduate is granted a VISA, that is the name they will use in the United States. The documentation the Board receives from their country will have their whole name listed. The applicant will only need to provide a written explanation for each name that would appear on a verification received.

Aside from the documentation the Board receives from the attorney or insurance company, the Board still requires that a physician provide the required ASMB Malpractice Reporting Form, and if a lawsuit has been filed, a copy of the legal complaint.
